Microneedling

Microneedling, also known as Collagen Induction Therapy (CIT), stimulates your skin's collagen production. Collagen is a natural protein that helps maintain skin’s firmness and shape. The Microneedling procedure utilizes a pen-shaped device that contains 12 micro-sized needles, but don’t let that scare you! These are extremely small micro-needles that lead to great results. As the device glides across your skin, the micro-needles perforate the top layers of your skin, activating its natural repair mechanism. More collagen is produced, plumping and tightening the treated area.

Micro Derma Pen treats both old and new acne scars, surgical scars, and stretch marks. Microneedling works by creating hundreds of microscopic channels in the epidermis and dermis. These controlled micro-injuries stimulate the body’s natural wound-healing process, while minimizing cellular damage. The result is effective remodeling of scar tissue and keeping the overall structure of the skin intact. Micro Derma Pen is also beneficial for a skin condition known as melasma. Melasma is a condition in which brown patches appear on the face. Women are much more likely than men to develop this condition. Melasma can be due to hormonal changes or from sun exposure. Laser treatments use heat. In contrast, micro-needling does not create heat in the skin reducing potential side effects.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is Microneedling?
Microneedling is an aesthetic treatment that addresses the appearance of fine lines, acne scars as well as skin texture, tone and color. The benefits of microneedling can include a reduction in the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles, younger-looking skin with fewer signs of aging. Micro Derma Pen may also have a positive effect on the appearance of hyper-pigmentation, hypo-pigmentation, acne scars, traumatic scars, and stretch marks.  This treatment can be used on all parts of the body, including the: face, neck, décolleté, arms, hands, legs, abdomen and back and generally creates a fresher, more glowing appearance to the skin.

What should I expect during a Micro Derma Pen treatment?
A sterile cartridge containing 12 points is attached to the Micro Derma Pen. Your skincare professional will apply a topical anesthetic to your skin prior to the procedure.  A thin layer of sterile solution is then applied to your skin and the pen setting is adjusted based on your unique needs. Next, in a single motion, the pen will be gently pressed against the skin while simultaneously gliding in one direction until the entire treatment area has been covered. The feeling associated with the Micro Derma Pen is similar to light sandpaper being moved across the skin. While some areas are more sensitive than others, the speed of the reciprocating tip reduces discomfort while the applied hydrating gel also makes the treatment more tolerable.
